To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:
- an interest in helping people move and function better
- an eye for detail when shaping and fitting devices
- good communication skills for working with clients
- patience to fine tune a device until it fits well
What will you learn?
You study anatomy, physiology and biomechanics, then learn prescription, design and fabrication. Clinical teaching and external placements build practical skill. It usually takes four years full time, and some providers offer a shorter path. Only two providers teach it, so check what each includes.
