Entry recommendations
To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:
- an interest in how cars and light vehicles work
- a careful approach to safety in a workshop
- good hand skills for using and maintaining tools
- a willingness to follow steps and check your work
What will you learn?
Students learn to inspect and service batteries, brakes, cooling systems, steering, suspension, engines, drive shafts and final drive assemblies, and to carry out general servicing operations. Safety and environmental best practice run through the practical work, along with using and maintaining workshop tools and tracing basic faults. There are no entry requirements, so it suits school leavers and career changers with no prior automotive experience.

Units of competency (13 core, 7 elective)
