Entry recommendations
To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:
- an interest in working with metal and building materials
- a careful approach to safety when working at heights
- good hand skills and comfort with physical work
- an interest in how roofs and rainwater systems work
What will you learn?
You learn to work safely at heights and on roofs, set up scaffolding and elevated work platforms, read plans and work out quantities, cut and join sheet metal, and fit roof sheeting and rainwater systems on homes, factories and commercial buildings. Training happens in a real or closely simulated workplace, because the skills are hands-on and the job is physical. Roof plumbing is a licensed occupation, so requirements differ between states and territories, and you need general construction induction training before you can start on a construction site.
