To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • good hand skills for adjusting and repairing spectacles
  • comfort talking with customers about their needs
  • patience and care when working with prescriptions

What will you learn?

You learn to read prescriptions, help clients choose frames and lens options, order and check the appliances that come back from the lab, and adjust or repair spectacles so they sit comfortably. The customer side matters as much as the technical side, so the course also covers service, communication and working with people from different backgrounds in a health setting. To finish, you need at least 100 hours of direct client contact in an optical dispensing workplace, which is where most of the practical skill is built.
