There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

  • Providers can set their own conditions, such as a minimum age or a current job in the industry, and practical training may need a workplace placement. Check each provider above.

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in how food is made and kept safe
  • careful attention to detail when monitoring and documenting
  • comfort with numbers and analysing production data
  • a methodical approach to quality and safety systems

What will you learn?

You study food microbiology and biochemistry, learn how process controls work in a processing operation, and build the food safety plans that sit behind a HACCP system. A lot of the job is monitoring and documenting, so the course also covers quality management systems, workplace health and safety, environmentally sustainable work practices and the maths used to describe and analyse production data. It suits people already working in food manufacturing who want to move into quality assurance or product development, and there are no entry requirements to enrol.
