Sales Manager resume template preview: an Australian example with a professional summary, key skills, experience bullet points and education sections filled in

Which resume format should you use?

Reverse chronological

You have a steady work history. This is the format almost every recruiter and ATS expects by default.

Functional

You're changing fields or have gaps in your employment. Leads with skills rather than a job-by-job timeline.

Combination

You're early career or have worked consistently but for only a few employers. Blends a skills summary with a shorter chronological history.

This template uses the reverse chronological format: the one most sales managers should default to, since most Australian recruiters and ATS software expect it.

Professional summary

Sales manager with a record of leading teams to hit revenue targets across wholesale, professional services and retail. Combines hands on key account negotiation with CRM based pipeline analysis and quarterly strategy resets. Coaches sales staff on product knowledge and selling technique while keeping the commercial numbers in view.

Key skills

  • Selling and negotiation
  • Account and relationship management
  • Financial analysis and modelling
  • Sales strategy development
  • Data analysis and pipeline reporting
  • CRM software (Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics 365)
  • Excel and business intelligence dashboards
  • Forecasting and pipeline management tools
  • People leadership and coaching
  • Presenting and data storytelling
  • Problem solving

Experience: example bullet points

  • Set quarterly sales targets and monitored team performance against KPIs, adjusting territory allocations to keep the pipeline balanced.
  • Coached a team of sales staff on product knowledge and negotiation technique, lifting average deal size and shortening the sales cycle.
  • Analysed CRM and revenue data to identify where the team was losing deals, then reworked qualification criteria and follow up cadence.
  • Managed key client accounts personally, negotiating contracts and pricing that protected margin while securing multi year renewals.
  • Recruited and onboarded new sales staff, building a structured induction that had them managing their own accounts within the first quarter.
  • Reworked sales strategy each quarter as budgets, stock levels or market conditions shifted, keeping the forecast credible with senior leadership.

Education

A bachelor degree in business, commerce or marketing is the most common qualification, though many sales managers enter through a diploma or advanced diploma and progress from sales representative or account management roles. Postgraduate study in business or management supports the step up to senior commercial leadership.

Keywords an ATS is likely to scan for

Applicant tracking systems match your resume against terms in the job ad before a person ever sees it. Only include the ones that actually apply to your experience, but if a term below matches something you've done, use the same wording the job ad uses.

Getting past ATS screening

This is a starting point, not a guarantee of interviews. Tailor every bullet point to your own real experience and the specific job ad.
