Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in working with fabrics and materials
  • good hand skills for cutting and sewing
  • patience for detailed and precise work
  • a willingness to follow safety practices

What will you learn?

You learn to choose the right fabric, vinyl or leather, measure and cut it, and sew covers that fit properly on frames and foam. Much of the work is hands-on with industrial sewing machines, hand tools and power tools, along with repairs and alterations to trim that is already in place. The finish matters, because the trim is the part of a vehicle people see and touch every day.

Units of competency (12 core, 18 elective)
