One genuine, specific reason you want this job at this company, not any company. Vague enthusiasm reads as a template that wasn't customised.

Re: Application for Choreographer
I am applying for the Choreographer role with [Company Name]. My work sits across stage and screen, and I am drawn to the way your productions treat movement as a primary storytelling tool rather than something added once the text is settled.
In my most recent contract I choreographed a new dance theatre work from first creative development through to a three-week season. It began as a set of written prompts and a temp music track, and over eight weeks I built a movement vocabulary with a company of nine dancers, restructured the second act after the first preview, and worked closely with the lighting designer so the final solo read from the back of the house. The work then toured to two regional venues, where I re-blocked the group sections for stages less than half the size of the original without losing the shape of the piece.

Getting it right
- Keep it to one page. A hiring manager spends seconds on this before deciding whether to read your resume.
- Address a named person where you can find one, rather than "To Whom It May Concern".
- Don't repeat your resume line for line. Use the letter to add context a bullet point can't: why this role, why now, why here.
- Match the tone of the job ad. A formal listing calls for a formal letter; a casual one gives you room to write more like yourself.
