Entry requirements

Individuals must have the conceptual, technical and organisational skills to create and present work in their chosen creative form. Skills and knowledge may have been acquired through experience in a creative field or formal study.

  • Providers can set their own conditions, such as a minimum age or a current job in the industry, and practical training may need a workplace placement. Check each provider above.

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, it helps to have:

  • an interest in making art and showing it
  • willingness to discuss your work and others'
  • a habit of thinking critically about your ideas
  • some skill in a creative medium

What will you learn?

Study covers the practical side of making and exhibiting that work alongside the thinking behind it: art theory and history, critical analysis of your own work and other people's, and cultural research that grounds your ideas. A business component covers how creative practitioners find work, price it and manage the professional side of a practice. It suits people who already have some skill in a creative field, through study or experience, and want to take their work to an independent, exhibition-ready standard.
