- an interest in working outdoors on construction and mine sites
- a careful approach to recording measurements and data
- comfort with numbers and simple calculations
- an interest in maps, plans and spatial information
What will you learn?
The training covers setting up and using surveying equipment, recording measurements on site, running the simple calculations behind them, and turning the results into basic plans and maps. Construction site safety is part of the core, because much of the field work happens on building, civil and mining sites. Traineeships are a common way into the role, and cadastral surveying has to be carried out under the supervision of a registered surveyor.
