Wool Buyer resume template preview: an Australian example with a professional summary, key skills, experience bullet points and education sections filled in

Which resume format should you use?

Reverse chronological

You have a steady work history. This is the format almost every recruiter and ATS expects by default.

Functional

You're changing fields or have gaps in your employment. Leads with skills rather than a job-by-job timeline.

Combination

You're early career or have worked consistently but for only a few employers. Blends a skills summary with a shorter chronological history.

This template uses the reverse chronological format: the one most wool buyers should default to, since most Australian recruiters and ATS software expect it.

Professional summary

Wool buyer with a hands-on background in fleece assessment, auction bidding and grower advisory work. Comfortable reading a catalogue and a test result side by side, setting buying limits, and negotiating with both woolgrowers and brokers. Known for plain, practical advice to growers about when and how to sell.

Key skills

  • Fleece inspection, yield and contamination assessment
  • Wool classing and sample grading
  • Price negotiation with woolgrowers and brokers
  • Auction bidding and limit management
  • Market analysis and reporting
  • Client relationships and grower advisory
  • Supply chain planning and wool logistics
  • AWEX Wool Auction System
  • WoolQ
  • Microsoft Excel
  • OFDA wool testing equipment
  • Market reporting platforms

Experience: example bullet points

  • Inspected and classed fleece across multiple sale lots each week, identifying contamination, tenderness and colour faults before lines reached the catalogue.
  • Bid at weekly wool auctions, managing limits across several lines at once so no purchase ran past the client's specification.
  • Negotiated purchase prices with woolgrowers and brokers, settling trades that brought grower clients back across consecutive seasons.
  • Built Excel models tracking micron, yield and price movement across the season, turning them into plain advice for growers on timing and reserve.
  • Worked with testing labs to verify OFDA yield results and contamination claims before committing to a line, avoiding claims disputes after delivery.
  • Coached shed staff on skirting and preparation after repeated faults showed up in a grower's clip, which lifted the number of lines sold as single lots.
  • Coordinated transport and store bookings so purchased wool moved from the store to the processor without double handling or extra storage charges.

Education

Year 12 is the most common entry point, often alongside a Certificate III or IV in wool classing or agriculture. Many buyers start in wool handling, classing or broking and complete AWEX-endorsed wool classing and auction training on the job.

Keywords an ATS is likely to scan for

Applicant tracking systems match your resume against terms in the job ad before a person ever sees it. Only include the ones that actually apply to your experience, but if a term below matches something you've done, use the same wording the job ad uses.

Getting past ATS screening

This is a starting point, not a guarantee of interviews. Tailor every bullet point to your own real experience and the specific job ad.
